Journey: an act of traveling from one place to another.
And travel I did last year. . .by foot. . .with my running buddies!! We trained for months to be able to run a half marathon last October and, I have to say, it was one the "funnest and hardest" journeys I've ever taken.
However, our "journey" meant so more than the actual miles we put in to preparing for our goal. More importantly than the distance we traveled together, was what occurred as we became focused and connected in order to complete our common goal. It was about getting to know new friends, giving support to each other...and receiving support, about making priority the time commitment it took to slowly improve our bodies in strength and endurance, about sharing laughs and giggles and life experiences, and exchanging hi-fives for each running milestone, and surrounding ourselves with the gifts of sunrises and foggy mornings and geese and deer and snails and watching the trees go from lush and green to bare and bracing for winter and getting spooked by a couple of "strange" folks on the trail and drinking gallons of water and sweating gallons of sweat. Yes, these are just but a few of the bits and pieces that were so special and so much a part of our total "journey".
I never thought the experience of working with a few other ladies to run a half marathon would have been so life changing of a journey, but it was.
I have missed our weekend morning runs. . .and I soooo look forward to when the weather turns from the bleakness and cold of winter to the warmth of spring and we can once again gather and run and gab and carve out some time devoted just to us.
In the meantime, I continue to run in our neighborhood when there's no ice or snow involved and when the temps aren't super horrible. . . .like yesterday when it was pretty warm!! As I stopped to tightened a shoe lace I spotted PINK trash someone had tossed into a yard! Ya never know what you'll find when out running or walking!! Recently I "made" $1.10 by keeping my eyes on the road!!
Another "journey" I've been on for several years is PINK SATURDAY!! It's so great to have this weekly event in which to participate!! I've "met" so many wonderful folks along the way and I thank Beverly for having created this for us!!!
Please visit HOW SWEET THE SOUND to see all of the bloggers who are ready to share their PINKS with you this weekend!!
HAPPY PINK SATURDAY!!
