How do you recycle your everyday household "trash"?
Where we live we do not have city wide pickup of our recycling as many places do, so we have three choices:
1. not make the effort to recycle
2. pay our trash company the extra fee for them to pick up our recycling
3. take our recyclables someplace ourselves
I choose number 3.
I admit I am not always the best at taking the things that need to be recycled out to the garage and putting them in the containers until I have enough to take to the recycling bins. I'm doing better ...... it's becoming more of a habbit.....but I'm far from perfect.
We do have a couple of city locations where we can take our recycling. They take most everything. . .including electronics and glass. However, they are only open on the weekends. We are lucky that our local school districts have recycling bins right in their parking lots. They use a company that pays them for the recyclables they've collected. The really good thing for us is we don't even have to separate our stuff!! We have to have our items separated to deposit them at the city locations.
Over time I've found a way to handle our recyclable items that works for us. I usually request our groceries to be placed in paper bags. I have boxes that hold 2-3 of these bags. Those bags are then filled with paper, plastic, aluminum/and other acceptable cans, cardboard, etc.. Every couple of weeks I take the sacks to the bins at our nearby school and toss them in! Easy peasy!
These school collection sights don't take glass, but we have a local business (RIPPLE GLASS CO) that has addressed the problem of glass recycling and now has bins in various parts of our town. The advantage to these are that they are always available to use, unlike our city sites.
THE STONE RABBIT has been a long time proponent of recycling. He's been a big help in keeping me focused on being more consistent with making this a habit!
Have a great day today. . .get outside enjoy your wonderful planet!
