Last Spring I shared a photo of Leanna and her husband in their tent at the Independence, Missouri, Garden Sale. They sell yummy canned foods (jellies, pickles, etc.) and an ever changing variety of other items!
Well, not too long ago, I saw her again at a local sale where she was not only offering her great food items, but also wonderful flower bulbs. She had tulips, daffodils, paper whites and a very, very special and SECRET BULB only sold to very, very special people like ( I'm blushing as I type this) ME!!!
Oh, YES! She would only let us special folks buy the SECRET BULBS and only if she was certain we were the ones who would be able to see the amazing specialness of the plants that came from the bulbs!
It was very obvious to her that I had the ability to "see" how special her bulbs were!
I told her I was honored that she picked ME to be a keeper of her SPECIAL BULBS, but that I didn't know what I was supposed to see! She slowly nodded her head and grinned and told me I would know the minute I saw it!
WHOA! How fun, I thought! A Special little secret and I LOVE secrets!
Bonnie caught Leanna selling a few of the SPECIAL BULBS to ME! See how sneaky we look when we were caught picking through that basket? You see, Leanna doesn't keep that big basket of SPECIAL BULBS out for regular folks to see. NO sir! She has them under her pickle counter--just beneath the pickled beets. That's a real handy spot for her to keep those SPECIAL BULBS---ready to grab them when the really Special folks come by----like ME!
Anyway, she sent me home with a few of her SPECIAL BULBS---and with instructions on how to plant them.
When I arrived home, I pulled out the necessary items. Leanna told me I would need one of the SPECIAL BULBS, a container for planting the bulb, some dirt and a few rocks! NOW the important thing I needed to add to the bottom of the container was a PINK rock--THAT, she told me was necessary in order for the plant to really take on its specialness!
It's hard to tell, but this rock is PINK! I dug through a pile of them in our backyard until I spotted the best PINK one I had.
I tried to get a clear photo of my Secret Bulb once I had it planted, but as soon as I added the last bit of soil, the entire container started jiggling and shaking! I think the PINK magic had already started!
Leanna told me to make sure my SPECIAL BULB received plenty of light, so I placed it in my window.
THE STONE RABBIT and a couple of his concrete friends had heard me talking about how excited I was for my SPECIAL BULB to come to life, so they gathered outside and looked up in the window at the sight of the cup holding The Secret! They were excited, too!
Everyday, I would take my SPECIAL BULB down from its resting place in the window and check to see if it needed water. Before I put it back in the window I always told it I was so excited to see the surprise it had in store for me!! I read on a blog, I think it was Nola of ALAMO NORTH or maybe Brenda of A VIEW FROM THE PINES, that it helps if you talk to your plants every day, so I was willing to give it a shot! Both Nola and Brenda are great gardeners--so I'll do whatever they say when it comes to plants!
THEN one day, as I reached for the SPECIAL BULB, I saw a little sprig of blooms coming from its middle! Woo-hoo-----the surprise must surely be near!
Two days later, I took it over to the cabinet to look at it and talk to it and that's when I discovered the first of the Special Surprises Leanna had promised I would see! YES! this SECRET BULB bloomed a PINK shamrock. This HAD to be the special surprise she was talking about!
I got on the phone and called her! I told her how beautiful the PINK shamrock was that had grown from the bulb. Then she told me not everyone SEES the shamrocks from this plant as PINK! That's right---only very, very Special People see the Pinkness of the shamrocks. Ordinary people still see them as GREEN!!!!
Well, I was hopping up and down with sheer delight---I WAS so Special after all!!! YES! that shamrock was definitely a PINK one!
A few days later, I saw my SECRET BULB had produced more shamrocks---but they were GREEN!!!
I was so upset!!!
I quickly gave Leanna another call. "I still have my wonderful PINK shamrock, but the newer ones are Green!" I whined. "Don't worry," she said, "just wait until you see what happens next!"
I had just hung up the phone when I heard a loud, high-pitched noise and turned to see the SPECIAL BULB shaking and trembling---the little glass container was rattling all over my counter top. THEN, it started shooting out more and more of those PINK shamrocks and pushing the Green ones out of the way!!!! Before I knew it, I had an entire pot of PINK shamrocks.
THE STONE RABBIT and I were watching in shock as the SPECIAL BULB was producing more and more of the shamrocks right before ours eyes. It was an incredible sight to behold!
When the plant was finally still and the last of the PINK shamrocks was visible, he slowly turned his head and looked at me. "Those shamrocks are. . . . .PINK, aren't they?" "Yes," I said with a big old smile on my face!
I'll bet Leanna knew THE STONE RABBIT would be able to see the PINKNESS of those shamrocks, too. He's always been a very special rabbit!
Later, I told her that I thought I would write my Pink Saturday post about the PINK shamrocks that bloomed from her SPECIAL BULBS. She asked if I thought any of the Pink Saturday folks would be able to see their
PINKNESS. I told her I was pretty certain they could, because they are all very special, too!
Please visit Beverly's blog, HOW SWEET THE SOUND. You'll find many more folks ready to share their Special Pinkness!

They aren't pink to me :(, sadly. Could it be that for the first time forever I'm not in Pink Saturday. Oh, I'm so jealous...they just look pea green to me. I will look again next Saturday to see if the pea green shamrocks look pink to me. In the meantime I'll just go look at more pink blogs. xoxo Sad Nancy

That's what all the teachers used to tell my mom when I was young...they would say "Mrs. Young...your daughter is "special". I think you are "special" too Dana. Nowadays I think the politically correct term is "BAT CRAP CRAZY" but in the funniest and nicest way lol

How cute, Dana! Happy pink shamrock day to you! Your story reminded me of The Lorax (by Dr. Seuss, one of my favorite kids' books!) You were, indeed, entrusted with magic to make things grow!... Good morning Dana, Your pinkness is very special today. So are you. Your talent for writing is special too. I adore those little pinkies. You didn't tell what kind of bulb it was or how to find one. ????
Thank you for your kind words about our ex-DIL. Our trip was worth the many hours of driving. We are so thankful to be there, even as short as it was. I am so glad to be home again, as well.
Hugs to you my friend...Jeanne
