In this tough economic time, one of the places where I have tried to cut costs is in the area of "entertainment". I have been trying to find thrifty ways that help enrich and improve my life, but that are also fun!!
One such place that fits those areas I described is our local bookstore!
I love to go there. I can be entertained for hours just strolling up and down the aisles---looking at the great titles of books, checking out their lines of greeting cards, and seeing all of the other merchandise they offer---like planners, pen sets, plush animals, and book bags. See the great PINK on this one? Wow, that gal is one avid reader, too. She's not paying one bit of attention as to where she's walking---maybe she'll fall in a deep hole, or maybe she'll step on a rattlesnake, or maybe a bear will jump out from behind one of those trees and snatch that book right out of her hands. SEE!!! Going to a bookstore can spark all sorts of entertainment!
One hot section at this book store is the area where they have TONS of discounted books. I always check in that spot-----you just NEVER know what you will find at a bargain price.
On this particular day, I realized what a wealth of PINKNESS was going on in the bargain book section! Whoa, not only was there a bunch of PINK but the topics covered in these books were incredibly helpful, enriching and fun.
For instance, for $7.98, a person could find the answers to some of the most pressing questions known to mankind--like "Why do we have eyebrows?" and "What makes sled dogs run!" This book would certainly provide unknown hours of fun for a family on an entertainment budget! Your family could sit around the kitchen table on a Friday or Saturday night, munch on homemade pizza (thrifty and healthy) and take turns tossing out some of the great questions in this book!! Yes, indeedy, this is true cheap and fun and enriching entertainment at its best!
When I saw this title, I thought it might be about selling the extra stuff we have around the house that we don't need---stuff that could bring us a little quick cash in these hard economic times, but as I read a bit more on the cover, it looks even better than what I thought!
For the mere price of $4.98, a person can learn how to get more and better stuff---like a good job, the perfect man and MORE!!! That certainly is a thrifty investment for us right now! It's certainly cheaper than taking a few classes at your local college or paying an on-line date-finder!
I realized there were LOTS of thrifty PINKISH books that focused on inexpensive ways to improve our outward appearance. I didn't see the price on the front of this, but it had to be a bargain, cuz it was a book and gift set!!! It included temporary tattoos (in various sizes for various body locations) and adhesive body jewels!
I gave this serious consideration.
I know I have an Elder Body and it's equipped with the Elder Wrinkles and Sags, but maybe a few temporary tattoos and body jewels, strategically placed just might provide lots of entertainment to folks near and dear to me!!
It certainly would be thrifty entertainment in the "fun" category!
I can always come back and pick that up if I change my mind--I doubt if they sell out.
Now the Pink title on this book grabbed my attention! I love the idea of defying gravity---a workout that will lift and tone my ENTIRE body---and it will help me lose 2 dress sizes in a few weeks! That's a whole bunch of improvement for the thrifty price of $7.98!!! Certainly cheaper than a gym membership. If only I could look the way Tamilee does on that cover! I wouldn't need all of those tattoos and body jewels would I?
OH YES!!!! This PINK book certainly hits the fun, enriching and improving aspects of cheap entertainment for which I am constantly searching! For $6.98, Dolphina has promised I can get "fit and feel fabulous". PLUS, I could go on the hunt for a beautiful and thrifty belly dancing outfit to wear while I perform!!! Not only could I look fabulous, but it could open the door for a second career! I'll bet nursing homes and care centers would love to have me come in a do a little belly dancing demo!!! Of course, it wouldn't be free--I could pass a little basket around and let the guests toss in some donations!!
SEE!! Isn't this thrifty entertainment fun---and possibly profitable to boot?
I have long been a fan of Denise Austin's. I love to sit in front of the TV and watch her exercise! Whew, that woman can wear me out as I watch her do some of her "step aerobics routines"!! Now, for $5.98, I see I could "sculpt" my body with "balls and bands" just by following the directions in her book!!
It must work, cuz Denise looks very sculpted.
It also looks like a little more effort than what I want to put out at this point. It may be cheap, but it doesn't hit the area of "fun".
I'll bet she doesn't sweat either---she NEVER looks sweaty on TV after she's been working out for 30 minutes. Of course it's more fun when you aren't sweating--have you every tried to hang onto one of those bands when your palms were dripping with sweat---or do a crunch on a ball with sweat rolling down your back? It can get dangerous!
I love you Denise, but I can't do it.
Now Yoga looks like it could be full of entertaining self-improvement---for $6.98, this is cheaper than signing up for a class. Unfortunately, there's no way on God's green earth that I could sit like that gal in the PINK leotard on the cover and if I did, my legs would never unlock. Of course, getting my legs unlocked would mean a trip to an Emergency Room and THAT would not be cheap or fun or entertaining---well, it might be entertaining for the ER staff!
I think I need to get out of the self-improvement section.
The title of this book popped out because it was in PINK glitter!!
I didn't open it , so I'm not certain what it is about. I will say it did provide me with a little giggle, so that in itself was thrifty and fun entertainment!!
This book should be required reading for many parents. It looks like it could be worth every penny of its $5.98 price!
I did find one thrifty book for THE STONE RABBIT!
I had to dig deep in the stacks of books in the discount aisles, but I found just the one I thought he would like and it just so happened to be PINK!!!
Judging by the look on this face, I think it's probably entertaining--I know it was cheap! :)
Even THE STONE RABBIT likes thrifty fun---especially if it's PINK!
For much, much more PINK Saturday fun, check out Beverly's blog, HOW SWEET THE SOUND!! You'll find many folks with Pinks to share!!
DANA
Elder body comments were too funny - can so relate. Big 12 is looking good so far - go Tigers!

Good morning Dana, banana, I have to remind myself on how to enunciate your name. BIG Smile. It is getting closer to our plans to meet. Hooray.
I am doing fine and enjoying the warm weather. Therapy is hard but improving every day.
Your post is a hoot. I love the way you write. Did you major in writing? You have a gift my friend. The photos are great and your choice of reading material to share is awesome. I quite agree with your analogy of them all. My favorite is the bunny book. Admit it you made that book cover didn't you? Smiling. The stone rabbit's smile is too cute.
Come over tomorrow if you have time. I am joining Cielo in welcoming spring. I will admit setting it all up almost killed me. I over-rated my energy level. LOL.
Love ya...Jeanne
PS. There is a story about the lamps and Beverly. Later.

Dana, you have made me want to hop up right now and head to the book store. Actually, I love book stores, and I, too, could stay for hours. It makes my hubby a bit nuts, so it is best a trip I make alone. And, now you've let me know that there are pink books galore. TSR even has his very own book. Don't tell Theodore, he'll feel neglected.
Yes, there is a lamp story, but I'll let Jeanne tell it. After all, she is the one that wrote the ending. ;-(
We're busy "doing" basketball at our house. I've got Missouri in my bracket for one more round. I'm not sure they can handle Memphis, but for now I'm saying Go Duke and Go Mizzou! I think I need a Blue Devil cookie.
Okay, I'm out of here. I don't want a reputation like you and Jeanne. ;-)

*****Laughing****** I love these book titles. You have inspired us bloggers to rev up our self improvement! A weight fell on my foot in the mad rush to clean up Friday night - would that count as exercise. Hey - your weather forecast was right on for Saturday. Our sale was a big success and fun and I met three bloggers! We loved that. I just came home this afternoon and am wiped out but had to check in to see what my favorite bloggers have been up to. Maybe you should take that book away from the SR...he looks like he might be getting some wild ideas! xoxo Nancy
