After I signed up for Barb's Rooster Party, I smacked my forehead and said, "What are you thinking?"
I have lots of items around my house, but I have NO, I said NO roosters!
THE STONE RABBIT was a bit dismayed, because he was really looking forward to having a party. He told me to keep my eyes open as I was out and about. He was certain I'd locate some ROOSTERS to bring to the party!!
Shortly after that, my buddy Bonnie and I went on a 20 mile garage sale in rural Missouri. Along the way, we made a stop where we were greeted with this sign!
"Woo-Hoo!" I told her, "I think I may have found a rooster to recruit for the party!"
As we approached the pen, we saw this great bird!!
I excitedly leaned over the fence and said to him, "Hey! Ya wanna come over to my house for a party? You'd be the guest of honor!"
"NO!", he promptly told me. After all, he was already the guest of honor at his very own party- - - every day!
Rats. . . . . .he would have wowed you guys, I just know it!
We continued to search for rooster invitees, but none seemed as perfect as that big boy.
I found a rooster plaque!!!
No good.
Too flat!
Bonnie looked cute in this vintage hat she located, but the rooster head wasn't a good party guest!
I didn't know how I was going participate in the party with NO ROOSTERS!!
< < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < <
THEN, last Saturday, I had to make a stop at Marian's house.
When I walked into her kitchen I saw the most beautiful sight. . . .ROOSTERS, glorious ROOSTERS. . . . positioned in the sweetest vignettes!
Marian collects ROOSTERS!
She even owns a ROOSTER PURSE!
< < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < <
My mind was spinning wildly.
"Do you think your roosters would want to, to, to. . . . COME TO A ROOSTER PARTY?" I blurted!
"Well, I bet they would love to do that, " Marian replied!
< < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < < <
I couldn't get home fast enough to tell THE STONE RABBIT the news!!!
I ran in the house shouting, "We have ROOSTERS!"
He was so excited.
Later he called Marian and asked her if the ROOSTERS would be ready on August 28th. That was the day of the party!!
She told him they were all looking forward to it!!!
"Great," he said, " I'll be over very early to pick them up!! I know they're early risers!"
He promptly started making party plans
Before sunrise, on the day of the party, THE STONE RABBIT was on his way to fetch the feathered guests!
Later, when I heard excited clucking and crowing, I looked out the front door!
There was THE STONE RABBIT pulling the wagon full of party goers up the sidewalk!!!
"Hello! Welcome to the ROOSTER PARTY!" I said. Then I told them to head on to the back patio for the festivities to begin!!
Once on the patio, they gathered in a circle for introductions!
I think they were very impressed with THE STONE RABBIT'S efforts to organize a party for them!!
Then one of the colorful guys spoke up and said, "Let's do 'The Chicken Dance'!"
What a great way to begin the party, I thought!
They spent several minutes clapping and flapping and . . . . . . . .
circling around one way and then the next!
When they had their fill of dancing, THE STONE RABBIT pulled out the Scrabble Game and announced they would be playing that for awhile.
The ROOSTERS were thrilled to have the chance to put their spelling skills to work!
They were just amazing Scrabble players!!!!
The Scrabble Game was a huge success, but time was running out!
THE STONE RABBIT told his feathered friends to turn the other way and "don't peek!!"
He had a final surprise for them!!!
He quickly hopped into the house, then returned with a little treat for each of the guys. . . . a tasty cone filled to the brim with yummy corn!!!
The ROOSTERS promptly gobbled up every bit of their snack.
"OK, friends, it's time to head back to your house!" THE STONE RABBIT told the guests.
Once they were back out on the front porch, the ROOSTERS circled around THE STONE RABBIT, to tell him how much they enjoyed the party!!
He said he LOVED having them over and he hoped they would come back again. . . very soon!
Then the ROOSTERS made their way back to the wagon and . . . . . .
settled in for the journey home!
I could hear the ROOSTERS clucking away about the fun time they had at the party!! Then one of the boys let out with a loud and happy "cock-a-doodle-do!"
I knew, then, the party had been a success!!!
There are soooooooo many folks just waiting to share their ROOSTERS with you! Just go over to Barb's, at BELLA VISTA, and look at the list on her sidebar. When you click on each blog name, you will find more ROOSTER fun in store!!!
DANA

Good morning Dana, I am so proud of the stone rabbit for delivering all those party hearty roosters. I can see they loved every minute of the big event. So did I. I would bet this was the best party today. I loved your photos from your shopping trip. Bonnie is such a good sport. So are you. Very clever post as always. Loved it all.
I confess to going to bed without finishing my post. I added a bit this morning.
My best rooster is in the cabin and it is rented. There are several others there too. I didn't want to intrude.
Have a wonderful day.
Love, Jeanne

This is just the most creative and entertaining story I've read in a month of Sundays!!! You and Stone Rabbit were the best host and hostess of the season. And it looks as if all of your new found friends were on their best behavior, too. Must be good breeding on the part of their "mother" -Marian
