This is the way my kitchen looked last week as I made preparations for my last cake decorating class. It took all of this to get to. . .
this!!!!!We were to bring a frosted cake to class because we were going to learn to make leaves and sweet peas and. . . .
ROSES!!!
This was our instructor's completed example. . . then she turned us loose to practice!
This was my first rose. Yes, it looks more like a pink cabbage, but I was really pleased I got it to look that good! Do you know how HARD it is to make a rose out of frosting? I have a new appreciation for those folks who create such beautifully decorated cakes for a living!! It is certainly an artistic accomplishment.
Here is Bonnie completing her cake. She practiced placing sweet peas, along with her rose, on her cake.
Marian made great roses and practiced using different tips to create the borders on her cake!
I put my roses off centered a bit because I wanted to practice writing on top of my cake.
I had planned on taking the cake to our vet's office, so I wrote "thanks" on it for all of the wonderful care he and his staff give to our fur babies. However, I decided someone else should have this, my second cake, instead. Since the "thanks" sentiment would have been OK for this person, I decided I'd practice my writing a little more with some of the frosting I had left over from my Pink Saturday Birthday Party post.
Once I completed my re-sentiment, I packed up the cake and took it to my. . .
son!!! :)
That was on Monday. We were supposed to celebrate his birthday on that day with a cookout at our house. However, his little boy became ill and they couldn't come over. Our grand girl wanted to come anyway, so we drove over to get her so she could spend the night with us.
Anyway, today is our boy's birthday. He has brought us nothing but pride and joy from the very beginning. We love him with all of our hearts and we hope he has the terrific day he deserves!
THE STONE RABBIT wanted me to tell you, son, that he saved you one of the twice baked potatoes we had at the cookout you guys couldn't attend!!! He had to move fast cuz your dad, sister, daughter and I were gobbling them up!! He put it in the freezer (and one for our DIL, too!) for you to enjoy when you do get to come over!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
CUTE! Nate will be excited to read this. Very sweet! Thanks for being such a great Mom/Mil/Nana! We all love you!
Love, DIL
P.S. Can't WAIT to dig into those yummy twice-baked. You make them the BEST!!!

Dana your cake and roses are gorgeous! I would never be able to do something so lovely. Happy birthday to your son, and if he doesn't eat the potato soon, send it to me! This decluttering thing has gotten way out of hand, so I opened a new blog to share it all. Come and see! ♥

Dana, you did good, girl. I love your rose. You know, cabbage roses are gorgeous specimens.
Happy Birthday to your sweet son. I know you adore him. And, I suspect he adores you, too.

Dear Dana
How did you know I LOVE cabbage? You are dang good at making a plain white cake look fabulous.
I like your technique on doing whats best for the "son". Great light bulb moment Dana. You always make me laugh, that's why I love you too.
Happy Birthday to your son.
Thanks for the well wishes for Randy. He's been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. He's been sick for 2 years now, not knowing what the heck was wrong. We take it one day at a time. That's the other reason we never made it to Andy Williams last year. He's only 48. Good days and bad days. Life goes on, he will be ok and I will too.
Sending you hugs from Canada.
thanks for the email girlfriend.
Love Claudie
