Since September 11, 2001, it's hard. . . .
for me to see a beautiful blue sky. . .
without thinking about. . .
the color of the sky on that day.
May we remember and honor those who lost their lives in the attack every day of the year.
May we remember and honor our military, first responders and their families as they continue to keep us safe.
May we always remember that we are "one nation under God". . . even in the most difficult of times.

Dana - Did you hear Mayor Bloomberg (sp) wants to stop calling it Ground Zero? What an idiot. Everything needs to be sanitized. He thinks we can't move forward calling it that and we're staying stuck in the past. I guess I'd rather be stuck than gloss it over and forget. Thanks for your post. xoxo Nancy

Dana, this will be a heavy weekend for all us. Your post is so true. Nancy and I will be in Bastrop this Saturday for a wedding...I dread seeing the parts of the countryside that were scorched in those terrible fires. But we will have reason to celebrate as we witness the beginning of a lovely new family and we will find the "Pink" even if there is a layer of ashes outside. Have a Pink Week...Hubby is enjoying "Dana's recipe" cupcakes...strawberry pink is our favorite...

Hello Dana, I agree with your thoughts so much. Your photos are perfect for this post. We lost a young man who was my niece's best friend's fiance. We met him on several occasions until he moved to NY to work in the twin Towers. So many people were touched by the loss of loved ones on that terrible day. Life really changed after that threat to our country. Beside the losses on 911, are lives lost in the war that we are still fighting. I wonder when it will all end.
I know life goes on but this weekend will be a sad time in America.
Love, Jeanne

I've been reading the different stories Yahoo has posted this week honoring those who were strongly impacted by 9/11. It can get pretty overwhelming! Over here on the West Coast, we don't have the daily reminders like those in the areas of the East Coast that experienced such tragedy. It's good to have a reminder to pray for the families who are still struggling with the loss and the impact on their lives. Thanks for this great post!

A very nice remembrance of a day heard around the world.

I was driving home from work 9-11-01 and noticing the blue sky, birds singing, and crisp air knowing that only 90 miles north of me were many injured &/or dead Americans, possibly including my brother and cousin in the Pentagon. Within a few hours, we knew they both were safe and unhurt - Thank G-d. But I remember how I felt during those hours of unknowing and my heart weeps for the families who went through that unknowing time only to eventually get the bad news about their loved ones.
The upside of 9-11 for me is deeper appreciation of my family and the ephemeral quality of life. Not carpe diem but "savor the day".

Happy Pink Saturday Dana...I just never got to that post today so am trying to do silver sunday instead. I have spent the day spraying brown corn stalks cream and orange pumpkins white since we have no real white pumpkins in my neck of the woods yet. Could hardly find orange pumpkins yet either. I think the workmen at my house today thought I had gone looney tunes spray painting pumpkins.! :)
Fabulous post today on that day. I remember how pretty and blue the sky was that day....it was a beautiful day to start. xoxo

It breaks your heart and at the same time makes you proud when you see the Statue of Liberty and behind her the towers ... mayor Bloomberg should be ashamed.

Poignant post, Dana. I spent 9-11 listening to all the names being read...very emotional. It was a very sad anniversary, but so many are remembering it by doing acts of public service and kindness to each other. A beautiful way to remember those lost.

Hi Dana, heading to Atchison was wonderful, we had to go the flood route, water still up in areas. The crowds were thick at times. The weather was perfect, a year ago the leaves at started to turn, this year everything was still green. The stores were full of merchandise and people.. I came home all fired up full of ideas and renewed energy for my own store. lol... I was a very good girl and didn't purchase a lot.. a good thing I got away when I did Mr. P has tumbled a couple of times since , so I would say I'm pretty much grounded now... I hope you and Pat get over my way this fall for my Open House, nothing like hers.. alot "SMALLER" scaled... lol. I hope you're out and about enjoying this gorgeous weather. hugs ~lynne~

yes, ONE NATION UNDER GOD! How I wish so many of us could remember this every day and not JUST when there is a tradgedy.
I loved your post. You put it wonderfully!!

It's true, it was a beautiful day. So poignant, that beauty amid such devastation. Such a memory. I posted about my memory of that day.
I read what Mayor Bloomberg said. I think I agree with him about abandoning the name Ground Zero. Never forget what happened, but why memorialize the site with a name that was coined to describe a nuclear explosion? Bloomberg said: "The rebirth and revitalization of lower Manhattan will be remembered as one of the greatest comeback stories in American history." I agree.
One doesn't move forward by crouching in the ashes and nurturing resentment and loss. You grieve, but then you grow.
