Yesterday was the day that our Grand Girl wore this shirt.
It's hard to believe because I can still remember holding her and walking around with her on this night . . . when she was attending her first Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary Party!
Even then, she loved PINK!!
And I'm certain it wasn't that long ago that my husband and I took photos of her (unbeknownst to her mama and daddy) for a surprise Christmas gift. . . a calendar.
We used a wrinkly sheet as the backdrop, then I surrounded her by items for her to "play" with that represented each month of the year and then my hubby took lots and lots of pictures!!
As I look back on the pictures, I see that they are not at all professional looking, but they certainly are a treasure.
March. . .
December. . .
And in NO TIME. . .she was toddling around in her little PINK Crocs and showing all sorts of "independence".
I can close my eyes and vividly recall this day when our families went to a local park area to take "fall family pictures" and how much fun she had playing in the leaves. . . and how she hated the swarms of bugs that looked like lady bugs, but weren't, and how they were landing on all of us and we were going crazy brushing them off. :)
And it doesn't seem that long ago that she was CRAZY about all things "Abby Cadabby" (from Sesame Street) . . .and how her mom created that look for her halloween costume and how stinkin' adorable she was in it!
And I'm certain it was just the other day that my husband and I took her to the Wizard of Oz exhibit at our local Crown Center and how I worried that she would be tramatized from the witches . . .
and scarecrows. . .
and lions . . .
and, instead, how she LOVED it all. . . which eventually led to a Wizard of Oz themed birthday party and, now, decor for her adorable bedroom!
And I'm sure this Easter egg hunt was just a few months ago. . and not years ago.
And I'm positive this bubble blowing session was just last week. . .cuz it sure seems like it to me!
Honestly, it couldn't have been that long ago that she enjoyed this particular July 4th parade in the little chair with her Tootsie Pop!
Wow. . . she was the perfect little Christmas Angel in this little pre-school program. . .that had to have been last Christmas. . wasn't it?
And I'm positive it was just the other day that she helped water my plants!!
But all too soon. . .that sweet little red headed baby Grand Girl was marching up the sidewalk, with her mom and dad and little brothers following her.
And she took her place in line. . .
then, with the help of her mom, she looked for her seat and started her very first day of Kindergarten!
And I still can't believe it. Where did all of that time go?
Well, it went into the growth and development of a smart and sweet and loving child who is now ready to take on the world. . . one grade at a time!
I just hope she slows down a little. . . so we can all hold on to her a bit longer.
Her darling outfit was created by a friend of my DIL's.
The special top. . .
darling matching headband. . .
and skirt!
Here is a Facebook Link to their business. Be sure you scroll through the posts so you can see some of their amazing designs!! I have to say, this outfit is so cute in real life and is exquisitly constructed!!

OK. . so THE STONE RABBIT has been feeling like me about how the years have flown by since we first welcomed The Grand Girl into this world. He says one of the things he's loved the most has been seeing how much she loves books and loves being read to. I have to credit her mom and dad for making sure books are a huge part of the lives of her and her brothers. . . and that watching TV is not.
We just had to share a small selection of books we have at our house to read to the kiddos. The ones in the front of this picture belonged to her daddy and aunt . . and were read many, many times to them when they were little. :)
Thank you for letting me walk down memory lane. I'm so lucky we live near my son and his wonderful family because we've had the great fortune of being around them during so many wonderful days in their lives.
I'm also lucky to be a part of the Pink Saturday Group!! For four years I've been sharing PINKS. Thank you to our hostess, Beverly, for making this all possible!
Please visit her blog, HOW SWEET THE SOUND, for your weekly fix of PINK!!

Happy first day of Kindergarten to your grand daughter, Dana! She is a beautiful(and tall!) girl and I know you and grand dad love her very much and are very proud of her! I will certainly look at your daughter's friend's facebook page -- the outfit she made for your little princess is so darling!
Happy Pink Saturday!

It's positively frightening how fast they grown! Get those cuddles while you can, before she thinks she's too grown up. Happy Pink Saturday!

My grandson...my first turned 10 yesterday. He is in 4th grade. The baby is in 1st grade. Too fast, but then, I think I am still 38 (at times!!).

Good morning Dana, My friend Bobbie is still sleeping YAY!!! so I have some time to visit. We are having a wonderful time reliving old memories and enjoying the moment. She goes home to CA on Monday. It is a three hour drive to the Atlanta airport but it is worth it. Bill is going with me. Thank goodness because that huge airport is intimidating.
Your post today is so darling Dana. I read the whole post and enjoyed the pics a few times. I didn't want to miss a thing. Every photo is so special but I have to say, the fairy wings were my fave. Her first kindergarten day outfit is the perfect thing to wear. You know I am partial to her beautiful red hair. It was so sweet to see her grow through the years. It is true about the time and how fast those years passed by. When I look at my grands and they are all teens now, it is mind blowing. So we have to 'seize the day' everyday and treasure every moment we are with them.
Books were always important with my children growing up and they carried the tradition to their children. I agree that books are MUCH better than TV.
Happy days to you my dear friend,
Love, Jeanne

Oh my this post tugged at my heart strings. Something about the beginning and end of school always seems to choke me up and cause me to take inventory of what has come and gone. I most adore the fact that you are such a protective Grandmother. Yes, I noticed. Much love to you and your family. May God bless you with another wonderful year!

The time does fly by fast! And you are indeed lucky to have your family near by. I hate that I miss those kinds of days with my grandgirls with them living so far away...Enjoy yours!

I have been feeling the same way about my son. He started kindergarten this year as well. Time passes fast and sometimes I blink and I feel like I miss something amazing. Our children and grandchildren are our gift. Happy pink!

Happy Pink Saturday, Dana. You know this post made me cry. I so loved looking back at that sweet grandgirl growing into a kindergarten queen. She is a treasure. Your family has so many great blessings, and I know you feel proud. I would, too.
We have the Frosty Golden Book, which was our son's. I can't even begin to guess how many times we read that to our grandson. Frosty was his favorite for years. We watched the video over and over and over and over.

Oh my - she has grown so fast and she looks like a model! I remember seeing most of her ages as she grew up and it does fly by. (My grandson just started kinder last year and somehow this year he is a senior in high school!) I know you have and will cherish each and every year with her and all the things she will do and be. Her outfit is darling and oh my gosh that red hair is gorgeous. I still maintain she should play piano - her hands are perfect for it! Good luck and God bless your adorable grandgirl through all her school years.

Scary how fast time goes by. Just took my "baby" back to Michigan for his senior year. Doesn't seem like it was all that long ago that we camped there with our young boys. So glad she enjoys reading. That's one of the best gifts we can give our kids. Wishing her a wonderful kindergarten year! ~Roberta

I agree with most comments here, yes kids do grow too fast, little we know that they are already in college, working or already have families. I'm glad you are making an effort to track some of the milestones of your grand daughter. In the future, if she sees it she would be delighted to know that she has a grand mother who loves her dearly and proud of her. :)
