I was recently involved in a project with The Itty Bitty Book Club! It was a collaborative endeavor where we each designed the front and back of a 4 inch square page for every participant involved (there were 13 of us). The theme chosen for this itty bitty book was MOD....drawing on inspiration from the 60's and 70's!
I love the music from the play/movie HAIR so that's the direction the front of my pages took. Using the peace sign paper as a background, I added bit of macrame-ish jute on one side with some "hippie beads" attached. Flower sequins were glued to the other side..and a scrap of tatting along the bottom...all of which reminded me of that era!
On the back page, the base paper was "flower powerish". A picture of a hippie sign was surrounded with "love beads", a PEACE charm and some of the jargon that was born from that time in our history.
This was my era. . .the time I graduated from high school and college and married and started my adult life! While I didn't deck out in hard-core hippie attire, I did spend a fair amount of time marameing necklaces and flower pot hangers! I was a pretty boring hipster! :)
Looking back over those years, we had a lot going on in our country. . .truly a cultural revolution. From the really bad times of riots, assassinations, war, drugs. . . came progressive movements that are still influencing our country.
I am grateful for having "grown up" during that time because it was truly the best of times in so many ways. The advancement of civil rights, women's movement, space exploration, environmental awareness. . . .we were there when that all happened!
Also, we had the BEST music ever in those decades. . . .music that is still awesome to listen to by all ages. The Beatles and Janice Joplin and The Mamas and the Papas and The Kingsmen. . . .the list goes on and on. We also had cool clothes....like "go go boots" and mini-skirts and peasant blouses and bell-bottom pants.
Oh, and my husband and I owned THREE VW Beetles. . .a black one, a red one and a yellow one!! :) I'd love to have one again.
This project caused me to reflect on the MOD time in my life. . .it was actually, a pretty nice time! We even had a kitty cat we named "Cat Stevens". . .cool, huh?
OK...back to the book!! We mailed our pages to the organizer who had already made the front and back covers ....then she assembled our pages into books and mailed them back to all of us!!
THE STONE RABBIT was so excited when my completed Itty Bitty Book arrived in the mail this week! Don't you LOVE the cover that Gina created? It's perfect for the theme of the books and perfect for this time of year! AND it's so PINK!!!
There are my HAIR pages. . .right after LaVerne's (Riverside Studios) Janice Joplin pages!!
And here's Nancy's, of My Crafty Little Page, MOD design reminding us that "all you need is love". :)
Please visit Beverly's blog, HOW SWEET THE SOUND, where you will find a long list of other bloggers ready to share their PINKS with you!!
Peace 'n Love,
